#GwynethPaltrow Rejected By Yahoo CEO #MarissaMayer Because She Lacks College Degree

Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow wrote best-selling cookbooks and owns the popular lifestyle blog Goop but she’s still not good enough for Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.

According to an article in The New York Times, Mayer "balked" at the idea of hiring the actress for the role of Yahoo Food contributing editor because she “disapproved of the fact that Paltrow did not graduate from college”. The lengthy article also noted that the CEO “habitually asked deputies where they attended college.”

Paltrow briefly studied anthropology at the University of California in Santa Barbara before dropping out to pursue her acting career. Since then, she has starred in hits like Seven, Sliding Doors, Emma and earned an Oscar for her performance in Shakespeare in Love.

Mayer, who graduated from Stanford in 1997 and previously worked as a Google executive, was just 38 when she was hired by Yahoo in 2012 to remake the once-great Yahoo. She went on to hire Elle’s former creative director Joe Zee and The New York Times’ former tech columnist David Pogue in an attempt to create must-read content.

Mayer also met with Vogue editor-in-chief #AnnaWintour about partnership opportunities between the fashion mag and Yahoo’s site for women, Shine. She struck a $5 million per year deal with former CBS “Evening News” anchor and “Today Show” host #KatieCouric as Yahoo’s “global anchor.” Despite all that, Mayer’s ideas have yet to gain popularity.
