Keanu Reeves was spotted in New York on Friday, as he sat outside his hotel on his own. The actor had a cigarette and then sat for a while on a bench, sipping on a drink and people watching.
The 49-year-old's tendency to be photographed looking lonely has built something of a reputation. Sad Keanu became an internet meme following pictures which range from him eating a sandwich on a park bench, to celebrating his birthday all alone with a cupcake. The campaign gathered so much steam that representatives for the actor felt compelled to speak out to reassure fans about his well-being.
'Keanu Reeves would like to thank all of his fans for their concerns regarding his happiness and wants to assure everyone that all is well,' his spokesman said. Keanu also seemed unruffled: 'It is hopefully, in a quiet and enjoyable way, transformative,' he told The Guardian. 'The kind of thing that takes you from this one place to another – to look at yourself and, y'know, it can always be worse. I hate that sentence: of course it can always be worse!' Earlier this week he was surprisingly cheerful while taking his motorbike for a spin around West Hollywood.
