Taylor Swift has cancelled a sold-out concert in Thailand after the country came under military rule last week in a coup d'etat. Concert promoter BEC-Tero announced Tuesday on its website that the concert was cancelled 'due to recent events in Thailand'. The singer took to Twitter to confirm the move, saying: 'I'm sending my love to the fans in Thailand. I'm so sad about the concert being cancelled.'
The concert in Bangkok was due to take place on June 9. The country is under a nighttime curfew, with everyone ordered to be inside by 10pm. But it is loosely enforced. The American singer-songwriter has other performances throughout Asia during her current Red Tour.
