On Friday, singer Cee Lo Green avoided jail time by pleading no contest to a felony charge after giving a 33-year-old woman ecstasy while they were on a dinner date on July 2012 in Los Angeles.
The woman claimed that Green put the drug in her drink as they dined together and she woke up to find herself naked in a bed with him in her hotel room. But after two rounds of police investigations, prosecutors declined to file any sex-related charges against Green due to lack of evidence.
Although Green’s lawyer, Blair Berk, insisted that the interaction between Green and the woman was "consensual relations," he was sentenced to three years' formal probation, 360 hours of community service and ordered to complete 52 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. He will attend a probation status update in March next year.
Despite his sentencing, Green, who maintains his innocence, said: “We are very pleased to have resolved this matter with an amicable understanding and we’re satisfied.”
