In court papers made available today, Robin Thicke confessed that he was wasted on Vicodin and booze while recording his hit “Blurred Lines" and that his wife Paula Patton left him because he was abusing alcohol and drugs all the time.
Robin and co-writer #PharrellWilliams are being sued by Marvin Gaye‘s children for making an unauthorized derivative of the song “Got to Give It Up.” During the deposition, stemming from a lawsuit, the lawyer for Gaye's family asked Robin if he was present when Pharrell created "Blurred Lines." Robin responded
"I was high on Vicodin and alcohol when I showed up at the studio."
He went on to say he was so out of it he really wasn't involved in the creative process before totally throwing Pharrell under the bus in the depo, by saying,
"The reality is, is that Pharrell had the beat and he wrote almost every single part of the song."
Problem is, Robin previously gave a GQ interview, in which he said,
"Pharrell and I were in the studio and I told him that one of my favorite songs of all time was Marvin Gaye's 'Got to Give it Up.' I was like, 'Damn, we should make something like that, something with that groove.'"
So, when the lawyer reminded Robin about his GQ interview, Robin said:
"With all due respect, I was high and drunk every time I did an interview last year. Every day, I woke up, I would take a Vicodin to start the day and then I would fill up a water bottle with vodka and drink it before and during my interviews. I told my wife the truth. That’s why she left me. When your wife leaves you, it gives you good reason to sober up. I've been sober for the last 2 months. "
Although he has not given up alcohol, Robin said he has stopped using Vicodin.
