Amy Adams’ interview with “The Today Show” on Monday was cancelled because she refused to discuss the Sony hacking scandal.
The actress, who was set to appear on the show to promote her new movie “Big Eyes” was connected to the Sony scandal because leaked email revealed that she was paid less than her male co-stars for her role in “American Hustle”.
Before heading to the studio, her team was informed that she would be asked about the Sony hack and then she was told again upon arrival. Amy asked the producer if they could avoid the subject, but they insisted that “Today is a news organization” and she was told no one can dictate their interviews, according to Deadline.
Amy then agreed to answer the questions but during the interview, the show’s producers realized they might not get significant answers from her so they cancelled the segment
After the incident, The Weinstein Company, which handles the distribution of "Big Eyes" released a statement that read:
"We firmly stand behind Amy Adams," the company says in a statement to Deadline. "We've been lucky enough to have had her talents grace several of our films. We are certain her fellow actors and directors would all agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off set. Amy decided to speak up for herself and express her disappointment that 'Today' would feel the need to ask her a question she did not feel comfortable, and rather than respect her opinion or continue the discussion, the reaction was to pull her appearance from the show."
