CBS' "60 Minutes" correspondent Bob Simon was killed in a car crash in NYC on Wednesday. He was a passenger in a livery cab on the West Side Highway at West 30th street when the car rear-ended a Mercedes-Benz sedan and slammed into a median.
Police on the scene had to cut off the top of Bob's car to free him and the driver. The 73-year-old was then rushed to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cab driver was sent to Bellevue Hospital Center "with injuries that were not life-threatening," according to the Fire Department
The driver of the Mercedes wasn't injured and told the New York Post that the cab driver was driving erratically. "He swerved into me. He hit me and he looked like he lost control of the car," he said. Police are still investigating the incident.
Bob is survived by his wife Francoise Simon and daughter Tanya, who is a producer for "60 Minutes". May his soul rest in peace, amen.
