NASCAR driver, Tony Stewart kept a low profile after tragically killing fellow driver Kevin Ward Jr. on the racetrack earlier this month but the 43-year-old publicly spoke about the accident for the first time during a news conference in Hampton, GA on Friday. Watch the clip below.

Racecar Driver #KevinWardJr Laid To Rest In New York

Kevin Ward Jr. was laid to rest on August 14 and the funeral took place at the South Lewis Central High School in New York. Mourners flooded the 700-seat auditorium as the Dixie Chicks’ song “Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)” piped through speakers.

Friends, family and fans dressed in all black and wore Kevin’s racing colors. Kevin’s sister, Kayla Herring told reporters:

“The reason for our orange and white ribbons is to show how bright those colors are and even against black, orange and white shine through.”

During the funeral, Herring made an emotional speech about her late brother while trying to hold back tears.

“If there wasn’t a dirt track in heaven before, there sure is now,” she said. “From all of us, Kevin, please watch over us. Drive fast. Turn left and Godspeed. You will never be forgotten.”

Kevin died in a tragic accident during a sprint race at Canandaigua track on Saturday, after #NASCAR star, #TonyStewart hit him as he drove by, killing the 20-year-old driver. Watch the video here.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s department is investigating a serious crash that killed a driver during a sprint car race (dirt track) in Canandaigua, NY on Saturday.

An eyewitness said Kevin Ward got out of his car after he crashed with Tony Stewart on a previous lap. Kevin tried to confront Steward as he drove past on the next lap but Steward hit him, sending him flying down the tracks. Kevin was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead.
