Jury duty is something that every U.S. citizen over the age of 18 must suffer through at some point or another - unless you happen to be Madonna. According to reports, the singer was a no-show at Manhattan Supreme Court where she had been summoned to perform her civic duty, on Tuesday. The online juror's handbook stipulates that skipping jury duty in New York can result in civil or criminal penalties. Potential jurors have the right to postpone their service once, but it must be done by phone at least a week in advance.
According to reports, the 55-year-old pop idol, whose net worth hovers somewhere around $700million, provided a doctor's note and promised to fulfill her obligation in the coming days. She is thought to have spent the Memorial Day weekend with her family, featuring a rowdy barbeque, a trip to the beach with her dog, a horseback riding session and marked the occasion with a picture of some peonies on her Instagram account at around 2am Tuesday with the caption:
‘Perfect end to a memorable weekend! The flower is always at its moat [sic] beautiful, Ripe and fragrant. Right before it dies #bittersweet.’
The Vogue songstres most likely will be able to reschedule her jury service for a later date, or secure a special exemption from a jurors office commissioner.
