Doctors To Bring #JoanRivers Out Of Coma Amid Fears She Could Be Left As A “Vegetable Or In A Wheelchair"

Doctor have started the process of bringing Joan Rivers out of medically induced coma, but fear she could be left as “a vegetable” or “needing a wheelchair.” The process began on Sunday at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and will continue until tomorrow, September 2.

A source close to the family said:

"There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair."

Another source said:

"Rivers would not want to live unless she could enjoy 'a full and active life. ... (She) would never want to be a burden on anyone."

The comedienne and host of E!'s “Fashion Police” was rushed to the hospital after she stopped breathing during throat surgery and was placed in a medically-induced coma on August 28.

Joan’s daughter, Melissa, released a statement on Sunday thanking everyone for their messages of support and gave a brief update on her mother's condition.

“My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery.”

Meanwhile, a source told the Daily News that Joan’s family is considering filing a lawsuit against the surgeon responsible for the “botched” procedure.

“Shock and upset is turning to anger, and they are looking for someone to blame. An 81-year-old should not have that procedure as an outpatient.”
