Joan Rivers died of lack of oxygen to the brain during throat surgery according to the New York City Medical Examiner's office. An official statement released today reads:

“OCME [Office of the Chief Medical Examiner] has completed its investigation. The cause of Ms. Rivers’ death is anoxic encephalopathy due to hypoxic arrest during laryngoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with propofol sedation for evaluation of voice changes and gastroesophageal reflux disease. The manner of death is therapeutic complication. The classification of a death as a therapeutic complication means that the death resulted from a predictable complication of medical therapy.”

Joan died in a New York City hospital on September 4 at the age of 81.

Last night, Melissa Rivers made an appearance on a special episode of E!'s Fashion Police to talk about her late mother for the first time since the legendary comedienne passed away and also revealed that she received a condolence letter from President Barack Obama. 

In July, Joan Rivers sparked a controversy after calling #BarackObama gay and his wife, #MichelleObama, a transgender but that did not discourage them from mourning her passing. Joan's former Fashion Police costars, #GiulianaRancic, #KellyOsbourne, and #GeorgeKotsiopoulos were also on the show. Watch the clip below.

#JoanRivers' Doctor, Gwen Korovin Denies Taking #Selfie With Her While She Was Unconscious

Joan Rivers' personal doctor, Dr. Gwen Korovin, has denies claims that she took a selfie with the late Fashion Police host when she was under anesthesia before she stopped breathing.

Earlier this week, CNN reported that a member of staff at Yorkville Endoscopy clinic told investigators the doctor took the pic but sources close to Gwen told TMZ that CNN’s source was "making up lies."

Gwen also denies she performed a biopsy on Joan but declined to comment when she was asked whether she previously performed other procedures on Joan. Some patients of the ENT doctor told TMZ that she has an "unblemished record" and is the best ENT in NYC.

on Thursday, Gwen's lawyer issued a statement to CNN regarding the report. It reads:

"Gwen S. Korovin, M.D. is a highly experienced, board certified otolaryngologist. She maintains privileges at one of the city's most prestigious hospitals. She is respected and admired by her peers in the medical community and she is revered by her patients."

"As a matter of personal and professional policy, Dr. Korovin does not publicly discuss her patients or their care and treatment. Further, Dr. Korovin is prohibited by state and federal confidentiality laws from discussing her care and treatment of any particular patient."

"For these reasons, neither Dr. Korovin nor her attorneys will have any public comment on recent press reports regarding her practice. We ask that the press please respect Dr. Korovin's personal and professional policy of not discussing her patients, as well as the privacy of her patients," the statement concluded.

Dr. Korovin is an esteemed ear, nose and throat specialist based in Manhattan and  treats several celebs including #HughJackman, #JulieAndrews, #LadyGaga, #ArianaGrande and #CelineDion, according to the MailOnline.

#JoanRivers’ Doctor Took #Selfie With Her While She Was Under Anesthesia

Shocking new details about Joan Rivers’ biopsy at Yorkville Endoscopy emerged yesterday. According to a new report, Joan’s doctor allegedly took a selfie while she was unconscious before performing an unauthorized biopsy on her which led to her cardiac arrest and death.

As previously reported, Joan’s personal ear, nose and throat doctor, who was not authorized to perform any medical procedures at the clinic, took over and began a biopsy after gastroenterologist Dr. Lawrence Cohen found something in Joan’s vocal cords.

Yesterday, CNN reported that a staff at Yorkville Endoscopy clinic told investigators that Joan’s doctor snapped a selfie with the Fashion Police star when she was under anesthesia. The source also claims that Joan’s “vocal cords began to swell during the allegedly unauthorized biopsy, cutting off the flow of oxygen to her lungs, which led to cardiac arrest.”

The Yorkville clinic previously denied vocal cord biopsies were ever done at their center. Dr. Cohen, who was the director of the facility, was ordered to step down by the clinic's board of director and he no longer works there.

Officials are still investigating but the clinic declined to comment on the new allegations.

Medical Director Who Performed #JoanRivers’ Endoscopy Fired

The doctor who performed the endoscopy on Joan Rivers has been fired by the clinic's board of directors. Dr. Lawrence Cohen, who worked at Yorkville Endoscopy was asked by the board to step down but they didn’t directly blame him for Joan's death.

A rep for the clinic confirmed he was ousted from his position as medical director. Source told TMZ that the board's issue with Cohen is that he allowed Joan's ENT doc to perform an unauthorized biopsy and Joan went into cardiac arrest while it was being done.

Cohen is a world renowned gastroenterologist and also co-owner of Yorkville. He's been on administrative leave since Joan's procedure on August 28.

The pups, Samantha and Teegan lived with Joan in her luxury New York City penthouse, while her other two lived in California.

Joan, who died at age 81 on Thursday, earned about $50 million a year and raked in over $1 billion in sales of clothing and jewelry in her partnership with home shopping network QVC over the last 24 years.

#JoanRivers Stopped Breathing During Impromptu Throat Biopsy She Didn't Even Want

Shocking new details are being reported about Joan Rivers' tragic death. Apparently, she did not even want the biopsy that eventually led to her death.

The 81-year-old comedienne was reportedly visiting the Yorkville Endoscopy center in NYC last month to have “a diagnostic procedure [to] see why her voice had gotten raspy,” according to the New York Daily News.

Doctor performing the endoscopy found "something" on Joan’s vocal cords, but then another doctor, whom Joan brought with her "asked if he could use their instruments" to perform an unplanned throat biopsy. Reports say that this is “a huge no-no” for a clinic to allow this to be done as Joan had agreed to the endoscopy but not the biopsy.

During the biopsy, Joan suffered a vocal cord contraction laryngospasm, which stopped her breathing. Sources told the publication that if the biopsy had been done in a hospital, Joan "might have been okay."

She passed away on September 4, about a week after the procedure.

Joan Rivers‘ daughter, Melissa said goodbye by kissing her casket outside Frank E. Campbell funeral home shortly before her mom’s body was transported to a crematorium in New Jersey on Saturday, according to Page Six.

A team of pallbearers carried the coffin to the hearse. Fighting back tears, Melissa then turned to her son, Cooper and touched him tenderly on the cheek before the hearse pulled away.

About a half hour later, drivers were seen unloaded the casket at the Garden State Crematory in Union City, where Rivers’ body will be cremated before her funeral at Temple Emanu-El on Sunday.

#JoanRivers Passes Away In New York At Age 81

Legendary comedienne Joan Rivers, 81, has passed away at Mount Sinai Hospital in NY,  just a week after her heart suddenly stopped beating during routine vocal cord surgery. Her daughter #MelissaRivers took her off life support so she could pass comfortably in a private room.

 

In a statement, Melissa announced the sad news:

“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided by mother.”

“Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated. My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

The clinic where she had the surgery is now under investigation. Joan's funeral will be held at Temple Emanu-El in NY on Sunday and she wrote her funeral requests in her 2012 book which you can see in the pic directly below. She was so funny!. May her soul rest in peace

Joan Rivers is off life support and out of intensive care at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital. The 81-year-old was on life support after being rushed to the hospital last Thursday. Her daughter #MelissaRivers just released a statement saying:

"My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable. Thank you for your continued support.”
